The Everything Shower Routine (for When You Need to Wash the Week Off Your Soul)
A full reset for your body and brain.
Running out of new steps to add to my everything shower routine that would make me feel brand new again.
There are normal showers. And then there are everything showers. The kind of shower you take when you’ve made a few questionable choices and you suddenly feel the spiritual need to exfoliate your entire existence.
An everything shower, just like the name suggests, is a long shower with great attention to pre- and post-shower as much as the actual shower that involves anything and everything you can think of to give your body the attention it deserves.
It’s basically a home day spa. Long, indulgent, and involving anything you can possibly throw into one shower. And the afterfeel is just… It’s too satisfying.
In that sense, an everything shower becomes an emotional reset disguised as body care. Like, I need to wash my life off me energy.
It’s what you do when you need to become a new woman by the time you towel dry. It’s a full-body ritual that clears away buildup, tension, and that vague “I don’t feel like myself” feeling.
With the steam increasing blood flow, body cleanse supporting emotional release, the ritual aspect that creates a sense of control… We’re not imagining it, it’s like washing your mind.
So maybe you stayed up too late. Maybe you flirted with someone you shouldn’t have. Maybe you just want to feel soft and clean and like you’re the main character again.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to the everything shower that feels like a physical reset, and a moral, emotional, and psychic cleanse. You can add or remove steps, and for those of you who enjoy everything showers regularly, you might find a few new steps to get inspired to try too!
Pre Shower
- Remove Makeup. Remove makeup with a cleansing balm or micellar water. Leave the cleansing for the shower. If you have nail polish, remove that too.
- Face Mask. Apply something anti-acne or pore-clearing, but it needs to be gentle enough to stay longer on the face.
- Hair Mask. As much as it sounds indulgent, an everything shower requires great time management skills. So before anything else, get ready for your shower by applying a hair mask/oil that needs to stay on for a few hours!
- Prepare. I usually work out/do laundry while my hair mask is on! Do your chores because you don’t want to sweat again after your shower. You will want to relax.
- The Sheets. This is the perfect time to change your sheets, so you can slip into a clean, nice-smelling bed after you’re done with everything.
- The Mood. Set the ambiance for the bathroom. Dim the lights. Put your phone away. Choose a playlist that feels soft and cleansing.
- The Footcare. Not as sexy, but this is a great time to squeeze in some foot care. Use a pumice stone or a foot file to loosen rough skin.
- Dry Brush. While your bathroom steams up, you can dry brush. Use circular motions and start from your legs and work your way up. Even a few minutes is enough to put you in the mood.
The Everything Shower
- First Shampoo. If you can, make it a clarifying shampoo. Your scalp holds oil, buildup, pollution, and sweat. Clarifying shampoo removes all that.
- Second Shampoo. Focus on your scalp. Massage until your brain feels like it’s melting into peace.
- Conditioner/Hair Mask. Apply a conditioner or a hair mask and let that marinate for a while. We’re moving on to your body.
- Scalp Care. If you have one, use a scalp brush in gentle circular motions while your conditioner sits.
- The Full-Body Exfoliation. All loosened up from the steam, get a sugar scrub and exfoliate all over, including your heels. Take your time and scrub away the entire week!
- Shave. With exfoliation out of the way, it’s much easier to shave now. Do wherever it feels good and right! Legs, thighs, even arms! Rinse and feast your eyes on your smooth skin!
- Body Wash. Use exfoliating gloves and lather up with a body wash that smells like pink clouds! This step is like body polish, and the scent of your body wash is going to stick longer!
- Face Wash. Apply your face wash to remove the remaining makeup and buildup.
- Rinse. Rinse everything away, including your hair mask.
- The Optional Cold Rinse. If you can handle it, end with 10–20 seconds of cold water to wake up the nervous system and boost circulation.
- Step Out. Slip into a towel/bathrobe.
Post Shower
- Catch a Breath. Sit down to towel-dry for a minute. Once your skin is damp or dry, move on to body care.
- Moisturize. Apply body serum, moisturizer, or oil depending on preference. Take your time and really massage it in.
- Gloss. Mix a few drops of body oil with body highlighter and apply a tiny bit on the collarbones and shoulders.
- Scent. Finish with a body mist or fragrance to lock the scent in. Layer hair perfume for maximum longevity and a nice mood lift.
- Get Comfortable. Slip into something cute or comfy like silk PJs.
- Skin. I like to do dermaplaning every few months. It removes dead skin and peach fuzz. You can squeeze this in, or do some tweezing or plucking, or just move on to the next step.
- Hair. Let your hair out and apply products like a leave-in conditioner or a mist. I like to let it air dry so I can blow-dry later, but you do you. Since you’ll be tired, you can just use hair clips to style your hair while it air-dries.
- Mask. Apply a clay mask on clean/dry skin. It soaks up dirt from pores and just adds glow.
- Skincare. Apply toners, serums, moisturizers, and, if possible, a pair of eye patches for a full-blown skincare routine. Finish with a lip balm and hand cream.
- The Reset Drink. Prepare a drink or snack to enjoy. I like making some tea. I mix a few slices of orange and a few leaves of fresh purple basil and let that simmer. It’s perfect for winter.
- Nail Care. Now that you’re done with everything, put your favorite show on, get your manicure set out, and focus on your nails as the finishing touch.
The Everything Shower is a simple but powerful ritual that helps you feel physically renewed and emotionally lighter. It won’t erase your past mistakes. But it will help you meet yourself with more softness, clarity, and care.
And sometimes, that’s all you need to begin again. Because trust me, with a shower with so many steps, anything better than that is just baptism.
