Targeted care beyond redness.

The moment you step inside a beauty store and blurt out rosacea, the salesperson comes back with an armful of all things anti-redness. Well, I find that to be incredibly presumptuous!
Just because we have rosacea, our skincare isn’t all about canceling out redness. Do people think that we moisturize our faces with avocado? Or that we blush our cheeks with green? Frustrating! And the same goes for face serums for rosacea!
When we’re looking for skincare products for rosacea, we simply want skincare products that happen to not trigger rosacea. But people seem to be too hung up on the redness aspect of it. Move past it, will you?
Everyone else’s enjoying a good antioxidant serum, an anti-aging one, or a hydrating one. It doesn’t mean that we can’t make use of those just because we have rosacea.
It just means that we need to dig deeper and come up with non-irritating versions of those face serums. Well, at least that’s what I’ve been doing ever since I realized I like experimenting with skincare despite my rosacea.
I don’t get discouraged by redness, and neither should you. From vitamin C serums to retinol serums, find below a round-up of my favorite face serums I swear by for rosacea skin.

Ceramides and niacinamide keep dryness in check, while licorice extract soothes inflammation and brightens. Remember to use this once a week at first until your skin builds tolerance.

This serum pairs it with vitamin B5 and hyaluronic acid for deep, irritation-free hydration. It also contains the antioxidant ferulic acid for anti-aging benefits. The subtly scented serum is an amazing addition to an evening routine.

So these are the best face serums for people with rosacea. If you’re newly adding face serums into your routine and not sure where to start, here’s what to keep in mind when choosing a face serum to use on rosacea skin.
How to Choose Face Serums for Rosacea
Your Skin Concerns
Face serums are treatment products that can help you better address skin concerns such as wrinkles, acne, pores, and of course, redness. When choosing a serum, keep your skin concerns in mind and choose one accordingly. Try a calming serum for redness, an antioxidant serum for wrinkles, or a vitamin C serum for uneven skin tone.
Calming Ingredients
Regardless of the type of serum you’re using, choose serums with ingredients like niacinamide, aloe vera, oatmeal, feverfew, and licorice extract. These are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce redness and calm irritation.
Hydrating Ingredients
Again, look for serums that provide deep hydration with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and squalane. A well-hydrated skin barrier is essential for rosacea-prone skin as it helps protect against irritation and redness.
Gentle Formula
Try to avoid serums that contain alcohol, fragrance, or high concentrations of exfoliants like glycolic acid as these can trigger rosacea flare-ups. Opt for formulas that are alcohol-free, fragrance-free, and designed for sensitive skin.
How to Use Face Serums on Rosacea Skin
1. Start with Clean Skin
Begin by cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser suitable for rosacea that won’t strip or irritate your skin. Your serum will work better when your skin is freshly cleansed. If you’re using a toner, use it before using your serum.
2. Apply on Dry Skin
Whether you’ve just washed your face or applied toner, make sure your skin is dry before applying serum. Though some hydrating serums, such as hyaluronic acid serums, work better when applied on damp skin, there’s an exception to this rule. Damp skin absorbs better and in the case of rosacea, it can increase the likelihood of irritation. So let your skin dry before moving onto your serum.
3. Use Small Amounts
Serums are concentrated, so a little goes a long way. Start with just a few drops, which should be enough for your entire face. Gently apply the serum using your fingertips, focusing on areas that need the most attention, like red or inflamed spots.
4. Pat It In
Instead of rubbing your face, which can cause redness because of friction, try patting the serum into the skin to help absorb it without irritation.
5. Top It Off with Moisturizer
After your serum absorbs, follow up with a hydrating moisturizer for rosacea. Look for one that’s lightweight but nourishing, with ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and squalane to help maintain moisture and support your skin barrier. For daytime, remember to apply sunscreen.
6. Remember to Start Slow
If you’re new to using face serums or trying a new product, start slowly. Introduce one serum at a time and use it every other day to see how your skin reacts. Gradually increase the frequency if your skin tolerates it well. If you start slow and let your skin adjust, there’s no need to be held down because of rosacea.
